Chapter Eleven

Getting personal

“I said no work talk.” I recognised my brothers look, he wouldn’t let it go so I sighed and pulled my legs up, so I sat cross-legged whilst I spoke. “I met Michael about two years ago.”

“Two years?” The look of shock on my brothers’ face made Lilith giggle.

“He came to us after a case. We took the demon home, but we were only able to do so by leading him back. I died, quite horribly. He helped bring us back to our body before bringing me home.”

“Wait, what?” I sighed as I looked at Mark, before I could say something Adam spoke out.

“You die doing the exorcisms?” I simply nodded as my brother was too stunned to talk.

“Sometimes. Look, it was the only way to save the soul he was possessing but the only way to take him home was to escort him. I can’t enter hell unless I am dead, Lilith can, but I can’t; as I am her vessel, I made sure she could do her job. I slit my throat. Michael bought my soul back, Lilith could have done it, but Michael stepping in helped. It meant we could do our job and not go through agonising hell as I leave the gates.” I spoke so matter of fact and with no remaining trauma of the incident it just made my brother look at me even more in shock.

“I spoke to Grace today. She wants to see me tomorrow.”

“She’s really nice, you’ll like her.” We spoke as my brother still looked at me in stunned silence.

“I think having somebody to talk too about it will help her work through it, she’s having some nasty flashbacks and I feel speaking to another survivor will help.”

“Which is why you’re perfect for the job.”

“Speaking to you might help too.”

“I’ll speak to her, but I don’t understand how I will help.”

“You’ve kind of been living what we went through.”

“It’s not the same and we all know it.”

“Being able to help one person will have made what I went through, worth it.” I smiled as I patted his arm in understanding and my brother finally came back to reality.

“A fucking angel.” I smiled over to him. “Do you know more than one?” They all looked at me, intrigued to know the answer.

“I’ve come across a couple, but I only have a working relationship with Michael. So far.” I gave the room a smile. I looked to Lilith as I thought of a way to help Jonathon and his sister. She nodded in agreement with my idea. It could be the only way to save her. I came back to the men in the room as they spoke.

“What pizzas did you get?” I smiled thankfully over at Adam as he changed the subject.

“Pepperoni, and then my usual. Pepperoni, jalapeños, onions and sweetcorn.”

“Ooh I’ll have to try a slice of that.” I smiled; Mark shook his head.

“I tried it, I wish I hadn’t. It has Spring onions under the cheese as well as peppers.
